Spelling Bee
Polaris is Excited to Announce the Return of the Scripps National Spelling Bee here at Polaris!
Here's What You Need to Know:
Classroom Bee:
- All students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to 'compete' in Classroom Bees on (or before) December 11th. This may take the form of a written test or a verbal bee; specific information and study materials will be provided by the Family Group Teacher.
- The top two (2) spellers from each family group will move on to the School Spelling Bee to be held on January 21st.
- Each will receive an award certificate and the study list for the School Bee.
- The top two (2) spellers from each family group will move on to the School Spelling Bee to be held on January 21st.
School Bee:
- The top sixteen (16) spellers from our elementary, two (2) from each Family Group, will compete in the Polaris School Bee on Wednesday, January 21st. This School Bee will be an official Scripps Spelling Bee and will follow the format of a verbal Spelloff!
- The top three (3) spellers will receive a Spelling Bee trophy for first, second, and third place.
- The top speller (1) will move on to the State Qualifier! This student does have to be in 2nd grade or higher.
- This student will receive an additional award certificate and the study list of the State Regional Bee.
State Regional Bee:
- Our top elementary speller from Polaris will move on to the State Regional Qualifier; an online-administered spelling bee to be completed by February 20, 2026.
- If qualified, our top speller will move on to the in-person Alaska State Spelling Bee which is slated to take place in March, 2026.
